Questions and answers

1. Why is it essential for the good news to be preached in many languages? (Romans 10:13, 14)

Main answer

Preaching in many languages is essential because people need to understand the Kingdom message in order to call on Jehovah’s name. Romans 10:13, 14 shows that a person cannot exercise faith in someone he does not know or hear a message that has not reached him in a comprehensible way. Jehovah does not limit the good news to one language or culture; he wants to gather people from every nation and language. Translation and preaching therefore have a direct part in a lifesaving work.

Additional comment 1

Babel’s confusion divided mankind by language, but Jehovah’s purpose is to unite a great crowd from all those groups. Every language reached by the message shows that Jehovah knows people individually and wants them to understand the hope he offers.

Additional comment 2

Learning a few words in another language, using a translated publication, or directing someone to jw.org in his language may seem small. Yet such steps remove a barrier that might otherwise keep that person from hearing the good news.

Quick comment

Jehovah wants everyone to understand the good news, so it is preached in many languages.

2

2. What was the prophet Zechariah inspired to foretell?

Main answer

Zechariah foretold that many nations would join themselves to Jehovah and that ten men out of all the languages would take hold of the robe of a Jew in order to go with him. The prophecy describes more than isolated conversions; it points to a worldwide work that would draw people from many backgrounds. It also shows that they would recognize that God was with his people. Seeing that fulfillment today strengthens our conviction that Jehovah directs the preaching work and is gathering those who want to know him.

Additional comment 1

The number ten represents completeness, not a limited total. The focus is that people from every language would have access to Jehovah’s people and could join them in true worship.

Additional comment 2

The words “we have heard that God is with you people” show that Jehovah’s people’s conduct and unity support the message they preach. The way we treat others can make the hope we share more credible.

Quick comment

Zechariah foretold that people from every language would recognize that Jehovah is with his people.

3. Who today are represented by the “Jew,” and who are represented by the “ten men”?

Main answer

The “Jew” represents the Israel of God, the anointed Christians who have the heavenly calling. The “ten men” represent humble people from all nations who hope to live forever on earth. These groups do not compete or pursue incompatible hopes; they worship Jehovah together in unity. The prophecy helps us value the unity between those with a heavenly hope and those with an earthly hope, since all follow the same God and support the same Kingdom.

Additional comment 1

Galatians 6:16 identifies the Israel of God, and Hebrews 3:1 refers to the heavenly calling. Those references clarify that the “Jew” in the prophecy has a symbolic rather than ethnic meaning.

Additional comment 2

Differences in language and culture do not weaken Christian unity. Instead, they make visible that the Kingdom message can unite very different people under the same principles and the same hope.

Quick comment

The Jew represents the anointed, and the ten men represent those who hope to live forever on earth.

4. What happened after Jesus appointed “the faithful and discreet slave” in 1919?

Main answer

After that appointment, the faithful slave understood that its commission was international and required translating the Bible’s message into many languages. Efforts had already been made to reach international audiences, but the work of translation, printing, and distribution needed to expand. The identification of the great crowd made the scope of that task even clearer. Jehovah was preparing the means for the lifesaving message to reach people throughout the world in a language they could understand.

Additional comment 1

Translating publications is not a secondary task. It enables a person to study, pray, and come to know Jehovah in the language that reaches his heart and lets him grasp the nuances of truth.

Additional comment 2

The growth of the work shows that Jehovah can use many different skills. Translators, programmers, printers, and publishers all help the message reach people they may never meet personally.

Quick comment

The faithful slave expanded translation so that the Kingdom message could reach as many languages as possible.

5-6

5-6. How is Isaiah 2:2-4 being fulfilled today? (See also picture.)

Main answer

Isaiah foretold that people from all nations would go to Jehovah’s house for instruction. That is fulfilled today as men and women from many backgrounds accept Bible teaching and cooperate so that others can receive it too. The work includes more than preaching; it involves translating, printing, distributing, and maintaining digital material in an increasing number of languages. The picture emphasizes that people in many places benefit from this spiritual food and willingly help the work continue.

Additional comment 1

The fulfillment of Isaiah 2 does not depend on one skill. Some preach, others translate, produce publications, or give financial support. Jehovah allows every Christian to have a valuable share in teaching people from many nations.

Additional comment 2

Worldwide unity does not erase cultural differences; it shows that they can coexist under Jehovah’s teaching. Seeing publications and meetings available in so many languages gives visible evidence that he is gathering those who want to learn his ways.

Quick comment

Isaiah 2 is fulfilled as people from all nations learn from Jehovah and support that teaching.

7. How are we affected by seeing the fulfillment of Revelation 14:6?

Main answer

Seeing the good news reach people of every nation, tribe, language, and people moves us to place greater trust in Bible prophecy. Revelation 14:6 describes no limited or temporary work but an everlasting message proclaimed to all mankind. Its fulfillment also strengthens our desire to support the organization Jehovah uses in the preaching work. Rather than viewing preaching as routine, we can see it as part of a prophetic work that confirms Jehovah does exactly what he says.

Additional comment 1

Digital tools allow someone to find the Bible or a publication in his language even where no nearby congregation exists. They do not replace personal contact, but they greatly expand opportunities for people to hear the message.

Additional comment 2

The prophecy’s fulfillment can encourage us when one conversation seems unproductive. Jehovah sees the full picture and is causing the message to reach places, languages, and people that we could never reach alone.

Quick comment

Seeing Revelation 14:6 fulfilled strengthens our faith and our desire to support the worldwide preaching work.

8. At Pentecost 33 C.E., how did Jehovah reverse the effects of what he had done at the Tower of Babel?

Main answer

At Pentecost 33 C.E., Jehovah enabled the disciples to speak languages they had not learned so that an international crowd could hear the magnificent things of God. At Babel he had confused languages; now he used different languages to communicate one message and unite those who responded to it. That miracle showed that no language barrier can prevent Jehovah from fulfilling his purpose. It also set a pattern for today’s work, which aims to communicate truth clearly in the language each person understands.

Additional comment 1

The miracle was not meant to impress the crowd with the disciples’ ability. It directed attention to Jehovah and allowed people from many places to understand his message on one occasion.

Additional comment 2

Although we do not miraculously speak a new language today, translations, videos, and apps make something similar possible: presenting the good news understandably and respectfully to people of different languages.

Quick comment

At Pentecost Jehovah used many languages to unite people from different nations through one message.

9

9. How can we help those who speak a language that we do not know to learn about the good news?

Main answer

We can use tools that already exist: printed publications, videos, jw.org, and JW Library in many languages. We can also respectfully ask which language a person understands best and look for suitable material instead of trying to explain everything in words he does not understand. A humble attitude does much good because it recognizes that the goal is not to display what we know but to help someone receive hope in the language of his heart. Advance preparation helps us use those tools with confidence.

Additional comment 1

A brief conversation can open an important door if we share a link, show a video, or locate a publication in the right language. The person can continue learning afterward even if we do not speak his language.

Additional comment 2

Becoming familiar with language options in the apps before going in the ministry saves time in the moment. That practical preparation shows consideration for those we are trying to help.

Quick comment

We can use publications and digital tools so that each person receives the message in a language he understands.

10-11

10-11. What do you learn from the experience of a brother named Robert and from the account in the box “A Refugee Finds Hope”?

Main answer

Both experiences show that a person can receive hope when he hears the truth in a language he understands. Robert did not speak Turkish, but he knew a publication well and could direct the man to material in his language. The refugee likewise found comfort when she received understandable spiritual help. We do not always need to master another language to help; we need genuine interest, familiarity with available tools, and willingness to connect a person with suitable information.

Additional comment 1

Robert had become familiar with the publication before using it. His example shows that knowing our tools well lets us use them flexibly when an unexpected opportunity arises.

Additional comment 2

A person who is displaced or isolated by language may feel invisible. Offering help in his language communicates respect and can help him see that Jehovah cares about him.

Quick comment

These experiences show that a publication in the right language can give hope to someone who feels isolated.

12. What effect does reading and studying the New World Translation have on Jehovah’s people?

Main answer

The New World Translation has helped Jehovah’s people understand the Bible more clearly and feel closer to its message. Available in many languages, it lets families, congregations, and students examine the Scriptures in a language they know well. That clarity strengthens unity because all can base their faith on the same Bible message. It also deepens appreciation for God’s Word and motivates us to share it with others more confidently.

Additional comment 1

An understandable translation does not remove the need to study; it makes study more rewarding. When we grasp the sense of an expression, it is easier to connect it with other texts and apply it correctly.

Additional comment 2

Having the complete Bible in one’s own language is a privilege that many people did not have for centuries. Appreciating it can move us to read it regularly and not take our access for granted.

Quick comment

The New World Translation helps millions understand the Bible clearly in their own language.

13

13. Why do few modern Bible translations use God’s name?

Main answer

Many modern Bible translations replace the divine name with titles such as “Lord,” even though the Tetragrammaton appears thousands of times in the Hebrew manuscripts. That practice is linked to traditions that viewed pronouncing God’s name as improper. Removing it can hide an essential feature of the Bible and make it harder for readers to know the personal identity of the One who inspired the Scriptures. Restoring the name where it belongs honors the text and distinguishes Jehovah from titles that can apply to others.

Additional comment 1

A title describes a role, but a name identifies a person. That distinction helps explain why Jehovah wanted his name to be known rather than spoken of only in an impersonal way.

Additional comment 2

Knowing Jehovah’s name also makes many prophecies and prayers clearer. It lets us see who acts, who deserves praise, and who promises to carry out what he has said.

Quick comment

Many Bibles replace God’s name with titles even though it appears thousands of times in the Hebrew text.

14

14. According to the Scriptures, why is it important to know and to use God’s name?

Main answer

The Bible connects knowing Jehovah’s name with having faith in him, calling on him, and speaking about his works. The Psalms show that his servants trusted in his name, and Jesus made his Father’s name known. So this is not merely a matter of pronouncing a word; it involves knowing Jehovah’s personality, purposes, and standards. Using his name respectfully makes our worship personal and helps us direct praise to the One who truly deserves it.

Additional comment 1

Jesus did not present his Father as an anonymous force. By making his name known, he helped his disciples develop a relationship built on trust, love, and obedience.

Additional comment 2

When we explain Jehovah’s name to someone, we are not trying to correct him coldly. We offer an opportunity to know better the Person whom the Bible presents as the Creator and God of purpose.

Quick comment

Knowing Jehovah’s name means knowing the Person, his qualities, and his purposes.

15

15. How do Jehovah’s people feel about the divine name?

Main answer

We feel deep love and respect for Jehovah’s name because it represents all that he is and all that he has done for us. We want to uphold it in a dignified way, not through aggressive arguments but through clean conduct and a clear message. When people see that we treat others well, keep our word, and speak appreciatively about Jehovah, they can understand why his name is so precious to us. Our love for his name affects both public and private decisions.

Additional comment 1

Love for the divine name also makes us sensitive to people who do not yet know Jehovah. We want to speak about him because knowing him can give direction and hope.

Additional comment 2

Honoring Jehovah’s name includes admitting our mistakes and correcting them. A humble attitude protects his reputation far better than trying to appear perfect.

Quick comment

We love Jehovah’s name and want to honor it by our conduct and our preaching.

16

16. Why is it urgent to come to know Jehovah now? (John 17:3)

Main answer

It is urgent to come to know Jehovah because everlasting life depends on knowing him and Jesus Christ, as John 17:3 indicates. Recognizing that God exists is not enough; we need to learn his way of thinking, accept his guidance, and develop friendship with him. The present time provides opportunities to study, make changes, and help others draw close to Jehovah. Delaying that learning may cause someone to miss help needed now and hope that Jehovah wants to offer.

Additional comment 1

Coming to know Jehovah is an ongoing process. Each Bible reading, prayer, and ministry experience can reveal another aspect of his personality and strengthen our trust.

Additional comment 2

Urgency should not produce paralyzing fear. It should move us to act today: study regularly, apply what we learn, and share with others the opportunity to know Jehovah.

Quick comment

Coming to know Jehovah now is urgent because everlasting life depends on becoming his friend.

17

17. What privilege do we have?

Main answer

We have the privilege of cooperating with Jehovah by making his name known and helping people of all languages learn the good news. None of us can accomplish the entire worldwide work, but every conversation, translation, donation, prayer, or act of support has a place in it. Jehovah allows imperfect people to share in a work that reflects his love for mankind. Appreciating that privilege helps us preach enthusiastically and use our abilities generously.

Additional comment 1

The privilege does not depend on having a visible assignment. A person who prepares for a visit, encourages a pioneer, or discreetly supports a congregation also strengthens the preaching work.

Additional comment 2

Thinking about the many languages reached can keep us from focusing only on our limitations. Jehovah can use what we have available when we offer it with the right motive.

Quick comment

We have the privilege of helping people of all languages come to know Jehovah’s name.

Review

Who are represented by the “Jew” and by the “ten men” mentioned at Zechariah 8:23?

Main answer

The Jew represents the anointed Christians, the Israel of God, whereas the ten men represent humble people from all nations who hope to live forever on earth. The prophecy highlights cooperation and unity between the two groups. All recognize that Jehovah is with his people and want to follow his direction. That unity confirms that differences in hope or background do not divide those who serve the same God.

Additional comment 1

The picture of people taking hold of the robe conveys a desire to learn and accompany, not human dependence. They recognize that Jehovah is guiding his people.

Additional comment 2

This prophecy helps us value every brother and sister regardless of background. True unity rests on shared worship and purpose.

Quick comment

The anointed and the great crowd serve Jehovah unitedly, though they have different hopes.

Review

What is making it possible for people from every tongue to learn about Jehovah?

Main answer

Translation of the Bible and publications, together with digital tools and personal preaching, makes it possible for people of many languages to learn about Jehovah. This work combines visible and quiet efforts: those who translate, produce resources, give support, and share the message participate in one objective. Jehovah is using these means so that language is not a final barrier and each person has an opportunity to hear the good news clearly.

Additional comment 1

Preparing to use jw.org or JW Library can turn an unexpected conversation into an opportunity to provide practical help.

Additional comment 2

The result does not depend on technology alone. Kindness and personal interest help a tool reach the heart of the recipient.

Quick comment

Translations, digital tools, and publishers make it possible for many languages to hear the good news.

Review

Why is it important for people to know and to use Jehovah’s name?

Main answer

It is very important because the Bible connects knowing and calling on Jehovah’s name with faith, salvation, and true worship. The name identifies our Creator and helps us know his qualities, standards, and purposes. When it is removed from a translation, an important part of the Bible’s message is lost. Making the divine name known allows people to develop a personal relationship with Jehovah and direct to him the praise he deserves.

Additional comment 1

Using Jehovah’s name respectfully is never merely a matter of custom. It reflects appreciation for the Person who bears that name and for what it represents.

Additional comment 2

Knowing the divine name gives precision to our prayers and preaching. We know whom we worship and want to help others know him.

Quick comment

Knowing Jehovah’s name lets us draw close to him and give him the praise he deserves.
