Prepared talk

Introduction

Lamentations does not describe cold or distant grief. Jeremiah watched a city he loved suffer, and Lamentations 2:11 says that his eyes were spent with tears. His response teaches us that sadness over a terrible loss is not a lack of faith.

LET'S READ LAMENTATIONS 2:11

Grief does not make us useless

Jeremiah could not undo Jerusalem’s choices, but he did not stop caring about people. Compassion moved him to speak honestly and encourage others to seek Jehovah. When someone makes bad choices, we may feel pain without taking responsibility that does not belong to us.

Pray humbly

Lamentations 2:19 invites us to rise and pour out our heart like water before Jehovah. Sincere prayer does not deny the problem; it recognizes our need for help. We can tell Jehovah about our grief and ask him to help a person develop a willing heart.

Conclusion

We cannot control another person’s decisions, but we can keep balanced compassion, pray, and remain a good influence. Jehovah understands our pain and values our continued trust in him.
