Lesson 92
Jesus Appears to the Fishermen
This lesson reviews the miraculous catch in Galilee and the loving way Jesus confirmed that Peter would keep caring for his little sheep.

ReadingEarly the next morning, they saw a man standing on the beach. From the shore he asked them: "Did you catch anything?" They answered: "No." The man said: "Cast your net on the right side of the boat." After they cast it, the net filled with so many fish that they could not haul it into the boat. Suddenly John realized that the man was Jesus and said: "It is the Lord!" Peter immediately threw himself into the water and swam to shore. The other disciples followed in the boat.

ReadingWhen they arrived at the shore, they saw a fire. There was fish on the fire and bread. Jesus asked them to bring some of the fish they had just caught so he could cook those too. Then he said to them: "Come and have breakfast."

What miracle did Jesus perform when he met the fishermen?

The miracle was a plentiful and miraculous catch of fish. After the apostles spent an entire night working hard without catching absolutely anything, Jesus gave them a very specific instruction from the shore: to cast the net on the right side of the boat. As soon as they obeyed, the net instantly filled with so many fish that they could not even drag it because of the weight.

This miracle immediately showed them that the man on the beach was their resurrected Master, since they had already lived through a similar experience at the beginning of his ministry. In addition, when they reached the shore, Jesus already had breakfast prepared for them with bread and warm fish on the coals, demonstrating in a tender and miraculous way how Jehovah always provides for the needs of his loyal servants.
Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him. Why do you think he asked that?

Most likely Jesus asked this three times to give Peter the opportunity to reaffirm his love and loyalty, thus erasing the remorse of having denied him three times on the night of his arrest. By answering positively on three occasions, Peter could feel the full forgiveness of his Master and understand that Jesus still trusted him to care for the congregation.

By asking him if he loved him "more than these," Jesus wanted Peter to evaluate his priorities. He was teaching him that from then on, his love for shepherding and preaching had to be greater than his former fishing business or any other material goal. With each question, Jesus assigned him the serious responsibility of feeding and shepherding his spiritual lambs.

Matthew 4:19, 20
This passage reminds us of the first call Jesus gave his disciples to become "fishers of men." By repeating the miraculous catch after his resurrection, Jesus refreshed their memory and confirmed that, although he would no longer be physically with them, the command to put the ministry first was still in force and would have Jehovah's blessing.
John 21:15-17
This passage highlights Jesus' love for the congregation, which he calls "my little sheep." The lesson for us is that the best way to show our love for Christ is by caring for the spiritual welfare of our brothers and sisters. Show spiritual initiative
Peter's reaction in jumping into the water to swim toward Jesus teaches us how important it is to have initiative and spiritual enthusiasm. Instead of waiting for the boat to reach the shore slowly, his love for the Master moved him to act immediately. In the congregation, we too should be ready to offer our help willingly and without delay.
Trust in Jehovah's compassion
This account gives us much comfort regarding the compassion of Jehovah and Jesus. Peter had made a serious mistake, but Jesus did not reject him or disqualify him as an apostle. On the contrary, he restored him spiritually and entrusted him with tasks of great responsibility. This encourages us to trust that, if we sincerely repent after a stumble, Jehovah forgives us and continues to value us.
Strengthen hospitality
When Jesus said, "Come and have breakfast," he left us a wonderful lesson in hospitality and companionship. Sharing a simple meal helped strengthen bonds of unity and created an opportunity for upbuilding conversation. This moves us to invite our brothers to our home, perhaps pioneers or new ones, to enjoy an exchange of spiritual encouragement.
Feed the little lambs
The instruction "feed my young lambs" has a very practical application for those who conduct Bible studies or care for children in the truth. Little lambs need more patience, digestible food, and constant care. We should make every effort to teach new ones with great tenderness so as to help them progress within Jehovah's organization.

Jesus Returns to Heaven
This lesson reviews the great commission, Jesus' final instructions, and his ascension from the Mount of Olives.

ReadingJesus met with his disciples in Galilee. He gave them a very important command: "Go and make disciples of people of all the nations. Teach them everything I have taught you and baptize them." Then he promised them: "Remember, I am always with you."

ReadingAfter he was resurrected, Jesus appeared for 40 days to hundreds of his disciples in Galilee and Jerusalem. He taught them important lessons and performed many miracles. Finally, he met for the last time with his apostles on the Mount of Olives. Jesus had said to them: "Do not leave Jerusalem. Keep waiting for what the Father has promised."

This verse connects directly with the commission Jesus gave before ascending. He did not limit the preaching work to a small geographic area; he foretold that it would reach "all the inhabited earth." Acts 1:8
Here Jesus explains the "engine" that would drive the preaching work. He knew that by their own human strength the disciples would not be able to carry the good news throughout the Roman world. This verse teaches us that the success of our ministry today does not depend on our personal abilities either, but on the power of Jehovah's holy spirit that sustains us.
1 Corinthians 15:3-6
This passage highlights the solid basis of Christian faith. By mentioning that the resurrected Jesus appeared to more than 500 brothers at one time, the apostle Paul shows that the resurrection was not a myth or the hallucination of a few people. This gives us absolute certainty that we serve a living, active King approved by Jehovah.
Practical lessons for our life
Preach with courage
Jesus' promise, "I am always with you," gives us great courage when we share in the ministry or when we open new territories. Knowing that Jesus Christ himself directs and supports the work through the angels helps us overcome fear of man and persevere in the face of indifference or opposition in our territory.
Stay united
The disciples returned to Jerusalem and "had the habit of gathering and praying" together in an upper room. This teaches us in a practical way the importance of unity and of not forsaking our Christian meetings. When we go through times of uncertainty or trials, staying close to the congregation and praying with our brothers gives us the spiritual refuge we need.
Be patient with Jehovah's timing
The apostles had to learn to be patient and to trust Jehovah's timetable when Jesus told them that it did not belong to them to know the times. We too, although we deeply long for this system to end, must imitate that patience by concentrating on being "witnesses of Jesus" day by day instead of speculating about dates.
Teach until baptism
The command to "teach them all the things" reminds us that our work in the ministry does not end when we leave a publication or a Bible verse. We must cultivate people's interest through return visits and strive to conduct Bible studies effectively, using the tools the faithful slave provides to help them reach baptism.
