In what ways did Jacob show courage?
I am struck that Jacob prepared gifts and approached Esau humbly before meeting him. Courage did not stop him from taking prudent steps; that reminds me that trusting Jehovah and planning carefully are not opposites.
He also had courage to address years of unfair treatment by Laban without turning the conversation into a fight. When I must discuss a serious problem, I can be firm about the facts while still seeking a peaceful outcome.
Jacob teaches me that courage is not the absence of fear; it is acting in faith and pursuing peace.
I learn that Jacob showed courage without being aggressive. He confronted Laban when threatened, sought peace with Esau even though 400 men were approaching, and wrestled with an angel because he wanted Jehovah’s blessing. Genesis 32:7 says that he was afraid and distressed, so courage did not mean feeling no fear. His example teaches me that I can act in faith while still feeling nervous, as long as obedience and a desire for peace guide my decisions.
