Jehovah is with us. Do not fear them

"Jehovah is with us. Do not fear them" (Num. 14:9)

Reflection for today

Fear has a way of shrinking our view. It puts the obstacle in the foreground and pushes Jehovah out of the frame. The ten spies saw real dangers, but their conclusion became distorted because they evaluated the future as though Israel were on its own. That is a warning for me. A problem can be genuinely difficult and still not be bigger than Jehovah’s ability to help me face it.

Today, fear of people may appear in quieter forms. I might hesitate to explain my beliefs because I expect ridicule, avoid a needed conversation because I dread someone’s reaction, or compromise a standard simply because I want to fit in. In those moments, courage begins with remembering whose opinion carries the greatest weight.

One practical exercise is to identify a situation that regularly makes me anxious and decide in advance what faithfulness would look like. I can choose the words I want to use, review a scripture, and pray specifically for calm and courage. Preparation does not guarantee that I will feel fearless, but it keeps fear from making the decision for me.

“Jehovah is with us” is more than comforting language. It is a reason to act differently. When I keep him in the picture, intimidating people and situations return to their proper size.
