Reflection for today
A shadow can be useful. It gives an outline, points to something real, and may even help us recognize what is coming. But once the reality is present, it would make little sense to stare only at the shadow. Hebrews 10:1 helps me see why the Mosaic Law was valuable and yet temporary: it prepared people for something greater centered on Christ.
There is a personal lesson here about attachment. Familiar religious routines can feel safe because they are predictable. When circumstances or arrangements change, I may instinctively treat discomfort as evidence that something is wrong. But sometimes growth requires distinguishing a Bible principle from the particular form in which I first learned to apply it.
I can test my reaction by asking, “What am I actually trying to preserve?” If the answer is a Scriptural truth, I should hold on tightly. If the answer is merely a preferred method, schedule, or custom, flexibility may be the more spiritual response.
This does not mean change is always easy. The first-century Jewish Christians had deep history behind their former way of life. Letting go could feel like losing part of themselves. Yet Christ offered the substance to which the Law had pointed.
When I keep the reality more important than the familiar outline, adjustments become less threatening. My loyalty is not to a routine; it is to Jehovah, his purpose, and the One through whom that purpose is fulfilled.
