Reasons to trust the God of truth

Why we can trust Jehovah completely

These first paragraphs remind us that Jehovah always tells the truth, loves us, and never fails to do what he promises.

1

According to Psalm 31:2-5, why can we trust Jehovah?

Paragraph 1
Full paragraph

1 WE live in Satan’s world. Lies, deception, and betrayal are everywhere. At times it can be hard to know whom to trust. Some businesspeople cheat their competitors. We are surrounded by misleading advertising. And some people have learned that they cannot even trust their friends, because those friends do not keep their word. How different Jehovah is! He is “the God of truth,” so we can always trust him (read Psalm 31:2-5). Truth is an essential part of his personality, and that shows in everything he says and does. Jehovah is one hundred percent trustworthy.

Main answer

We can fully trust Jehovah because he is “the God of truth.” Unlike this world, which is full of deception, truth is part of everything Jehovah says and does, so he will never let us down.

Extra comment

The contrast with Satan’s system is striking. Many people live with constant disappointment because of lies and betrayal, but Jehovah always keeps his word and never acts deceitfully.

2

What will we consider in this article?

Paragraph 2
Full paragraph

2 In this article we will consider some reasons why we can trust Jehovah with all our heart. Then we will see what the God of truth will do to bring Satan and his wicked world to an end, and what he is doing in our day to accomplish his purpose. All of this will help us be courageous and speak the truth without fear.

Main answer

This study will show us why we can trust Jehovah completely, what he will do to bring Satan to his end, and what he is already doing today to accomplish his purpose.

Extra comment

The goal of the article is not just to inform us. It is meant to give us courage so we can keep speaking the truth without fear, even in a world dominated by lies.

3

Why can we completely trust Jehovah?

Paragraph 3
Full paragraph

3 We can trust Jehovah because he is the Creator. He made the heavens, the earth, and all living things (Gen. 1:1; Ps. 36:9; Rev. 4:11). In addition, he made the earth with all the resources needed to support life forever. He has everything under control and always will. Because Jehovah is very wise and has unlimited power, we can place our lives and our future in his hands with full confidence.

Main answer

We can trust Jehovah because he is the almighty Creator, he has everything under control, and he perfectly prepared the earth for life.

Extra comment

Human leaders cannot guarantee the future, but Jehovah can. His infinite wisdom and power make him the safest one in whom to place our life.

4

How do we know that Jehovah loves us?

Paragraph 4
Full paragraph

4 We can trust Jehovah because he loves us. He created humans because he wanted to share with them the wonderful gift of life. In addition, he created us in his “image and likeness” (Gen. 1:26). He gave us free choice and a beautiful home in which to live (Ps. 115:16). He gave Adam and Eve the thrilling assignment of extending Paradise (Gen. 1:28; 2:15). He told them they could use everything on the planet to enjoy life and be happy. Clearly, “Jehovah’s loyal love ... lasts forever” (Ps. 103:17).

Main answer

We know Jehovah loves us because of everything he did from the beginning to make mankind happy: he created us in his image, gave us free will, and placed us in a beautiful home.

Extra comment

Jehovah did not create us because he needed us, but because he loved us. His original purpose shows that he wanted to share life, joy, and peace with his human children.

5

a) How did Jehovah fulfill his word even though Adam and Eve sinned? b) What are some promises Jehovah has fulfilled?

Paragraph 5
Full paragraph

5 We can trust Jehovah because he always fulfills his word. When he made the earth, his purpose was that it “be inhabited”; he “did not create it simply for nothing” (Isa. 45:18, 19). But when Adam and Eve rebelled, they were sentenced to death. What, then, would happen to God’s purpose? Would it fail? Impossible! Nothing can prevent Jehovah from doing what he has purposed (Isa. 46:10, 11). His purpose for the earth did not change: he wanted it to be filled with righteous humans. So he allowed Adam and Eve to have children and he sent Jesus to ransom Adam’s descendants and give them the wonderful opportunity to live forever (John 3:16).

Main answer

Even though Adam and Eve sinned, Jehovah did not abandon his original purpose. He allowed them to have offspring and put the ransom through Jesus into operation so the earth can finally be filled with righteous people.

Extra comment

Jehovah always does what he promises. He has already proved that in countless prophecies, and we still see it today in the worldwide preaching work and the progress of his purpose.

The God of truth makes sure his purpose is fulfilled

Satan cannot stop the Kingdom from winning

This part of the study shows that Jehovah already foretold the Devil’s defeat and that Jesus will soon complete his victory.

6

What did Jehovah foretell after the rebellion in Eden?

Paragraph 6
Full paragraph

6 Who tempted Adam and Eve to rebel against God? “The original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan” (Rev. 12:9; Gen. 3:4, 5; John 8:44). When Jehovah pronounced sentence against him, he foretold that he would be destroyed (Gen. 3:15). He also indicated that before that happened many would follow Satan and act like him. Even so, there would be those who loyally obeyed Jehovah.

Main answer

After the rebellion in Eden, Jehovah foretold that Satan would be destroyed and that, although many would follow him, there would always be faithful people who obeyed God.

Extra comment

That first prophecy already made it clear that Satan’s lies would not last forever and that the God of truth would ultimately triumph.

7

Who follow the Devil, and what awaits them?

Paragraph 7
Full paragraph

7 Who follow Satan the Devil? The angels who have rebelled against Jehovah and disobedient humans. Like Satan, they oppose God’s purpose, so they form part of his offspring. But Jehovah has fixed the time for bringing Satan and all those on his side to their end (Dan. 2:44; Rom. 16:20).

Main answer

Those who follow the Devil are the rebellious angels and the humans who oppose God’s purpose. All of them will be destroyed when Jehovah takes action.

Extra comment

Belonging to Satan’s “offspring” is a matter of attitude and conduct. Daniel 2:44 assures us that God’s Kingdom will put an end to every opposing system.

8

What did Jesus do in 1914?

Paragraph 8
Full paragraph

8 Why are we absolutely certain that Jehovah will fulfill his promise to destroy Satan and those who follow him? Consider this. In 1914, Jehovah appointed Jesus as King, and Jesus began fighting Satan and his demons. Since they lost, they were hurled down to the earth (Rev. 12:7-9). Although that war took place in heaven, its effects are obvious on earth. Since 1914, Satan has focused his efforts on getting as many people as possible to follow him. As a result, world conditions have become worse and worse. No wonder the Bible says: “Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time” (Rev. 12:12). But soon Jesus will finish what he began in 1914 and “complete his victory.” He will remove Satan and those who support him (Rev. 6:2). He will vindicate Jehovah’s name once and for all, and it will be clear that Jehovah is the God of truth.

Main answer

In 1914 Jehovah made Jesus King, and Jesus hurled Satan and his demons out of heaven. Very soon he will complete that victory by destroying the Devil and all who support him.

Extra comment

The terrible conditions in the world since 1914 confirm that Revelation 12:12 is being fulfilled. That does not frighten us; it reassures us that Satan’s end is close.

The God of truth is gathering those who love the truth

Jehovah is gathering sincere people

These paragraphs highlight the worldwide preaching work and the clear difference between those who serve Jehovah and those who do not.

9

Whom is Jehovah gathering today?

Paragraph 9
Full paragraph

9 Meanwhile, Jehovah is gathering “all things together in the Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth” (Eph. 1:10). The expression “the things in the heavens” refers to the anointed, whom Jehovah has chosen to rule with Christ in heaven. And the expression “the things on the earth” refers to those who will live forever in a paradise on earth. All these servants of Jehovah keep very busy helping others come to know the truth and proving that Satan is a liar.

Main answer

Jehovah is gathering the anointed, who will reign with Christ, and the other sheep, who will live forever on earth. All of them work together to make the truth known.

Extra comment

The unity between “the things in the heavens” and “the things on the earth” shows that Jehovah is organizing his people with love and with purpose.

10

What is Jehovah doing to free people from religious lies?

Paragraph 10
Full paragraph

10 How is Jehovah gathering people who love the truth? By means of the greatest preaching campaign in history (read Revelation 14:6, 7). Although he uses humans to carry the good news, the angels also share in gathering sincere people into the congregation. Through the preaching work, the lies about Jehovah that Satan has spread for centuries through Babylon the Great are exposed. Soon false religion will be completely removed, and those who love the God of truth will give him the glory he deserves.

Main answer

Jehovah is freeing people from religious lies through the greatest preaching campaign in human history, with angelic support.

Extra comment

The preaching work exposes false teachings such as the Trinity, hellfire, and the immortal soul. In that way, sincere people are helped to leave Babylon the Great and draw close to Jehovah.

11

How can we identify Jehovah’s true servants?

Paragraph 11
Full paragraph

11 Jehovah brings into his people individuals from different cultures, backgrounds, and economic levels (Rev. 7:9, 10). When they hear “the good news,” they realize that they have found the truth and willingly join God’s people. Over time, it becomes more and more obvious who serve God the way he wants and who do not. The prophet Malachi foretold: “You will again see the distinction between a righteous person and a wicked person, between one serving God and one not serving him” (Mal. 3:18). By their conduct and their preaching, Jehovah’s servants prove that they worship the God of truth.

Main answer

Jehovah’s true servants are identified by their international unity, clean conduct, and dedication to preaching the truth.

Extra comment

Malachi 3:18 is being fulfilled in a very visible way. Today there is a clear difference between those who live to please Jehovah and those who follow the spirit of the world.

12

How does preaching contribute to the fulfillment of Jehovah’s purpose?

Paragraph 12
Full paragraph

12 By preaching “the good news of the Kingdom,” we obey Jesus’ command and share in the fulfillment of prophecy (Matt. 24:14; 28:18-20). As a result, men and women around the world become followers of Jesus and gain the hope of worshipping the God of truth forever. In that way we are doing our part to help Jehovah’s purpose succeed. What a great honor!

Main answer

Preaching contributes directly to the fulfillment of Jehovah’s purpose because it helps thousands of people come to know the truth, become disciples, and support the Kingdom.

Extra comment

It is a tremendous privilege to know that Jehovah allows us to be his fellow workers in a work that has worldwide reach and everlasting results.

Look to the future with confidence

Nothing can separate Jehovah’s people from his love

The final part helps us look ahead calmly, knowing that Satan’s last attack will end in Jehovah’s complete victory.

13

Who are Satan’s main targets, and why?

Paragraph 13
Full paragraph

13 Satan is very angry because he knows that he has only “a short period of time” left before his world is destroyed (Rev. 12:12, 13). Who are the Devil’s main targets? The anointed, “who observe the commandments of God and have the work of bearing witness concerning Jesus” (Rev. 12:17; 14:12). And Satan also attacks those who support them.

Main answer

Satan’s main targets are the anointed still on earth and, by extension, the other sheep who loyally support them.

Extra comment

That explains why God’s people face constant pressure. The Devil hates those who obey God and bear witness about Jesus.

14

What will happen after Satan attacks God’s people?

Paragraph 14
Full paragraph

14 After Babylon the Great is destroyed, those who support Satan will attack God’s people with all their might. As a result, the war of Armageddon will begin (Rev. 16:13, 14, 16). Jesus and his heavenly army will rescue Jehovah’s servants and completely destroy everything that remains of Satan’s world (Rev. 19:19-21). All the wicked and all liars will disappear (Rev. 21:8). The whole world will know that God is righteous and always tells the truth.

Main answer

After the final attack on God’s people, Armageddon will begin. Jesus and his heavenly army will rescue Jehovah’s faithful servants and completely destroy Satan’s system.

Extra comment

Even if God’s people seem defenseless from a human standpoint, Jesus Christ’s intervention will be total and final.

15

Why can we look to the future with confidence?

Paragraph 15
Full paragraph

15 Today the world is more divided than ever. But with Jehovah’s help, his servants remain united. He is gathering those who love the truth, and nothing can stop him from blessing his people and the work they do. We look to the future with confidence. The apostle Paul’s words in Romans 8:38, 39 assure us: “Neither death nor life nor angels nor governments nor things now here nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other creation will be able to separate us from God’s love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Main answer

We can look to the future with confidence because Jehovah is blessing and uniting his people, and nothing in the entire universe will be able to separate us from his love.

Extra comment

Romans 8:38, 39 is a powerful guarantee. Neither opposition, nor crises, nor even death itself can break Jehovah’s protective love for his faithful servants.

16

Why do you trust Jehovah with all your heart?

Paragraph 16
Full paragraph

16 We have countless reasons to trust Jehovah, the God of truth. He is our Creator. He loves us deeply. He is seeing to it that the great crowd keeps growing and that people from all nations join pure worship. Jehovah makes sure that his purpose is always carried out, and we know that soon he will bring Satan and his terrible lies to an end. So let us make David’s words our own: “Praised be Jehovah God, ... the only one doing wonderful things. Let his glorious name be praised forever, and let his glory fill the whole earth”.

Main answer

We trust Jehovah with all our heart because he is our Creator, he loves us deeply, he always carries out his purpose, and soon he will bring Satan and all his lies to an end.

Extra comment

The more we review what Jehovah has already done and what he is still doing, the more natural it becomes to trust him fully and praise his glorious name.
