"Make sure of all things" (1 Thess. 5:21)

Reflection for today

Not every thought that enters my mind deserves to become a belief. A fear can feel convincing. A comment from someone else can sound authoritative. Even an assumption I have carried for years may seem unquestionable simply because it is familiar. Paul’s words remind me that faith benefits from careful examination rather than blind acceptance.

I can apply that principle when I face a spiritual question or a personal insecurity. Instead of collecting opinions that reinforce what I already think, I can ask: “What does the Bible actually establish?” That may mean reading the surrounding context of a verse, comparing several scriptures, praying for clarity, and using reliable study tools. The goal is not merely to win an argument with myself; it is to let Jehovah’s thinking reshape mine.

This is especially helpful when emotions are loud. Suppose I feel useless after making a mistake. The feeling is real, but the conclusion may be false. I can investigate how Jehovah treated repentant servants and what he says about forgiveness and endurance. Evidence from Scripture can gradually replace an inaccurate inner story.

A practical habit would be to keep one question at a time in my personal study notes and research it until I can explain the Bible’s answer in my own words. Tested convictions are usually stronger convictions.
