Reflection for today
Luke 24:34 is a statement of certainty, but the people who first heard that good news had just experienced shock, grief, and confusion. I find that reassuring. Strong faith does not require us to react to loss without emotion. Jesus’ disciples loved him, so his death hurt deeply. Their sadness was not something he mocked or treated as proof that they were spiritually defective.
Jesus responded by giving them what they needed: presence, evidence, explanation, and hope. That is a useful pattern when I try to encourage someone. I may be tempted to solve the person’s feelings quickly with a sentence or a scripture. But comfort often begins by listening long enough to understand what hurts.
A practical goal is to become more patient with grief—my own and other people’s. If someone is hurting, I can resist saying, “You should feel better because…” and instead acknowledge the loss. Then, when the moment is right, I can point to the resurrection hope as something solid, not as a way to silence emotion.
Jesus’ resurrection proves that Jehovah can reverse even death. That certainty gives grief a different ending. We may still cry now, but we do not grieve without a future. Hope gives us permission to hurt and a reason to keep going.
